A key change compared with prior Bioengineering Research Partnership FOAs is that BPI applications must include at least one academic and one industrial organization. The purpose of the BPI FOA will be to encourage applications to: 1) establish a robust engineering solution to a problem in biomedical research or the the practice of medicin; 2) develop a strategic alliance of multi-disciplinary partners based on a well-defined leadership plan; and 3) realize a specific endpoint within 5-10 years based on a detailed plan with a timeline and quantitative milestones. The areas of research encouraged in this initiative must be consistent with the missions of the ICs participating in the BPI funding opportunity. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The FOA is expected to be published in February 2022 with an expected application due date in May 2022. This FOA will utilize the U01activity code.
